This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie was chosen by Mary of Popsicles and Sandy Feet: chockablock cookies – an interesting name for a cookie that is serious business! These cookies include molasses, oats, coconut, chocolate, dried fruit and nuts. I wasn’t sure how all of those flavors were going to work together but it was easy enough to throw them together so I figured why not. Plus, some of the TWD bakers who didn’t wait until the last minute to bake the cookies were giving them positive reviews.
I made half of the recipe which gave me 15 cookies and I went with a combination of dried cranberries and raisins for the fruit and walnuts for the nuts. Since I don’t like walnuts, including them was my way of ensuring that I didn’t eat any of these cookies. I just received a ton of delicious treats from Margot in my Secret Baker package so the last thing I needed was more cookies tempting me. I’ve also recently decided that I’m not a huge cookie person. I’d much rather save my calories for pies and pastries and candy!
I emailed my mom yesterday to see if she wanted my cookies and she jumped at the chance. They aren’t the most photogenic little guys but she absolutely loved them nonetheless! One of the things I was most curious about was how prominent the molasses was – I was concerned it would be overpowering and compete with everything else going on in these cookies. That wasn’t the case at all though according to my mom. The many flavors worked together to make this one terrific chewy cookie!
Many thanks to Mary for hosting this week! You can find the recipe on her blog or on page 86 of Baking: From My Home to Yours.
I loved these cookies, but I have to say that I didn’t add any fruit either.
Yours look PERfect!
These cookies were excellent. I used dates, burgandy chocolate, walnuts. They are a bite of wonderful.
You cookies look lovely! I agree I was skeptical about the molasses, but never fear when Dorie is in charge 🙂
I’m with honeymuffin 0 they look perfect in size/texture/chewiness!
I am glad your mom liked them. Thanks for baking along with me this week!
You’ve managed to make these cookies look picture perfect. Beautiful!
Beautiful cookies, T! BTW, I mailed your book yesterday! 🙂
This is practically the first week that I have felt that everyone’s cookies look exactly the same…usually the blogs are filled with variety and different bits to make things just a little different…not this week! I do like the idea of your subs…they sound delicious. Guys inhaled them, no surprise, right?
You took some fantastic pictures of this cookie! They look amazing!
they sure do look perfect!
These were pretty good. I went with honey roasted peanuts and raisins. Not rushing out to make them again, though.
Yep, that’s about it: “one terrific chewy cookie” indeed. Loved these, and yours look especially tasty. Love walnuts the best – yum!
How funny – the little “ugly” cookies are the ones people like the best. These aren’t ugly in any way – but they do look delicious! I love how these are so deep golden with the molasses – and glad you mom was there to take them off your hand, I’m sure she enjoyed them!
What a wonderful daughter! I would have saved them for myself…yours actually look attractive!
I am not really a cookie person either, but I really liked these. So nice of you to share with your mom. They look beautiful!
Not a fav, but would be without the fruit. May try them again.
Look good, Tracey.
Oooh, Tracey, what a good idea! Put something in the cookie that you don’t like so you won’t eat it! In that case, I should have piled these cookies high with walnuts! Haha! They look delicious!
Your photos, as always, look fabulous! I’m glad your mom got to enjoy these and at least they helped you realize you’re not a cookie lover!
They look so fat and yummy. Im glad you loved them..I did too and added some trail mix..easy and sooo good!
Your cookies look great! I wish my family was a little closer (they’re about an hour away) so they could take baked goods off my hands.
LOL about adding walnuts so you won’t eat them. I have a similar plan to turn next week’s SMS recipe into something I won’t be tempted by. You have to learn to be discriminating with your choices when you bake a lot!
Those cookies are so pretty! I love it!
reading the ingredients makes me want to get up and make some – and your photo too … just might have to do just that
These cookies have it all!
Great pics! I am not a walnut fan either…used pecans instead and just had to try them! 🙂
I’m totally with you…I’d rather save my calories for other things, but these cookies were totally addicting.
They look great, and it sounds like your mom really enjoyed them!
Your cookies look perfect and it’s great that your mom likes them. 🙂
Lucky mom!
Glad you found someone to eat these for you. =) I used cranberries too, but B wasn’t very happy about that. And I left out the nuts since I wanted the girls to at least try them. =) I think it would be fun to play around with this one some more.
