Summer weather has finally arrived! One of my favorite things about summer is moving the cooking out to the grill and giving my oven a break (well, aside from all of the baking I’m still doing…)! The only problem is we tend to fall into a rut where we eat hamburgers and hot dogs WAY too often. They’re so quick and easy and they don’t require either of us to remember to take meat out of the freezer to defrost for dinner. However, I’m fairly certain a steady diet of hamburgers and hot dogs = need for a new summer wardrobe when none of my clothes fit anymore.
In an effort to keep dinner simple but make it slightly healthier, I searched for turkey burger recipes recently. I was specifically looking for one that would utilize feta since I have a huge container in my fridge (an impulse purchase at BJ’s not too long ago). I was excited when I found this recipe – super simple plus no veggies which means Shane wouldn’t object. I was worried these burgers would fall apart on the grill since I generally assume breadcrumbs or egg are required to bind burgers, but these stayed together beautifully. (I did refrigerate the patties for about an hour after I formed them before we popped them on the grill, which may have helped.) They were really moist and flavorful and I’ll definitely make them again!
Turkey Burgers with Feta Cheese
adapted from DiabetesDaily.com
1 pound ground turkey breast
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 3/4 oz feta cheese
In a large bowl, combine the chopped parsley, ground turkey, black pepper, salt, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder and feta cheese with a fork. Be careful not to overwork the meat. Divide mixture into 4 equal sized burgers. If grilling, either spray grill with cooking spray (before lighting!) or brush with oil to keep burgers from sticking to grates. Grill (or broil) the burgers until cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
These burgers sound so very flavorful. Perfect grilling recipe to try. Nice idea with the feta!
Is it wrong that it is breakfast time and these look incredibly delicious and I should make one right now for breakfast? Probably so…but dinner one night this week sounds perfectly reasonable. Lovely, lovely. Thanks for the inspiration.
I love ground turkey and have been using it a lot lately. I made up a burger with sauteed mushrooms (chopped really small) and some herbs and spices recently. It is so flavorful and moist and mmmm! Your burger sounds great with the cheese added!
Your turkey burgers sound amazing. Perfect for summer.
I’ve never been a turkey burger fan, but that looks really tasty!
Wow – healthy & tasty! I’ll definitely be trying these this summer.
Looks great. I make a very similar recipe, but mine also includes spinach.
Love turkey burgers and I really LOVE feta. CL just had a feta stuffed turkey burger this month, but I haven’t gotten to making it yet. Looks wonderful!
Girl, I really wanted to make those cinnamon squares. I still may do it next week. I’m so sorry I didn’t get to bake with you this week. I know that cinnamon is going to be fabulous! I can’t wait to see yours.
Oh, and I love your turkey burgers!
Love the addition of feta!
That is a gourmet burger! LOVE IT!
I wrote about a very similar recipe last week – tis the season for turkey burgers, I guess! Yours look great too. I love just about anything off the grill.
They sound great! A wonderful alternative to beef burgers.
That turkey burger sounds delicious. The feta would give the turkey a bit of enhanced flavour which, IMO, turkey sometimes needs. Great idea.
Delicious burgers, esp. with Feta….
Just add you to my blog fellow list..
This recipe is absolutely DELICIOUS!!! i have a friend who always makes turkey burgers with feta and craisins, so i added the craisins to this recipe. YUMMY!
