This week’s TWD was chosen by Ulrike of Kuchenlatein: Grandma’s All-Occasion Sugar Cookies! I was excited for this pick because I’ll certainly be making sugar cookies in conjunction with the upcoming holidays and the more recipes I’ve tried, the better!
This recipe, like most sugar cookie recipes, is relatively simple. You throw a few ingredients together and then stick the dough in the fridge or freezer to chill. Like some of the other TWD bakers, however, I had some trouble rolling this dough out. Well, I suppose the problem wasn’t with rolling it so much as trying to remove the scraps from around the shapes I cut out. The dough warmed up too quickly and I kept having to stick it back in the fridge to chill so I could get my cookies onto the baking sheet. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but it did make this a time consuming process.
I used one of my new snowflake shaped cookie cutters and thought these cookies looked so cute! Since I intend to make sugar cookies for Christmas and will certainly be decorating them festively with icing, sprinkles, etc, I couldn’t find the motivation to also make icing for these cookies and spend a ton of time decorating them. I dusted them with sanding sugar when they came out of the oven but that was the extent of the decorating this go-round. I’ll confess to having eaten a few of these cookies already and they’re good, but I still prefer the sugar cookie recipe I fell in love with last Christmas.
